BOOK REVIEW- THE MOST FUN WE EVER HAD
The Most Fun We Ever Had
Claire Lombardo
(Not so much a review as an advertisement without any spoilers whatsoever.)
If you’ve ever had children (especially girls), have been a sister, or have been part of any family, you should read this book. Let me revise and say, if you are human, you should read this book. I know this sounds like a slight exaggeration, but that is how enjoyable this read was for me.
I found so much in this book that echoed my own experiences. Claire Lombardo put into words what it is to be a family—the sacrifices, the love, loss, shame, jealousy, hate, loyalty, and adoration that it entails. Life is hard, bad things happen. We do things we aren’t proud of and things we hope others will acknowledge as good. We push through hard times and sometimes need someone else to push us through to the other end. This novel, about one family and all their branches (in this case, maybe from a Gingko), is written with honesty and heart and so much insight.
Each character in this novel is flawed and relatable—their experiences powerful and sincere. I am so grateful to my library for having this front and center on their new arrivals shelf. I am also happy to say I will soon have it permanently on my bookshelves, thanks to my local bookstore.
Don’t be daunted by the length. Once you start reading, you won’t even think about the 532 pages, until you don’t have any pages left to read.
