Art and Writing

Guardians, 1991     Hunt Slonem

It's been a busy few weeks. My son flew in for a visit, we spent a day at the Portland Art Museum, I did some writing, I got a last-minute visit from an amazing friend, and I have company coming tomorrow for a few days. I'm grateful it's Friday and I have two blissful days away from work. I'm going to do some baking, cleaning, reading, writing, and eating. What's on your agenda? Need something to get you started?

Here are a few things I found this week and wanted to share:

When she left it seemed she took all the colors with her. The world turned to gray and itchy like a wool sweater pulled across my chest.

This New Yorker piece.

I've been thinking about doing an MFA in creative writing. Found this article in The Atlantic today on the topic.

I'm hoping we can make it to this Scandinavian festival in Astoria, OR this summer.

The book I'm reading this week is The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie. See NPR's book review

This recipe for Lemon Cream scones will brighten up your weekend tea.

I love this embroidery pattern by Kelly Fletcher.

Have I mentioned I'm obsessed with Etsy and all the great artists there? Take a look at this votive holder (I would never cover it up with a candle) by Szilvia Vihrialia of Finland.

I discovered painter Robert Goodnough recently.  Here is the article The New York Times ran at the time of his death in 2010.
